Safe in Alhambra... or are we?

Tonight, as John and I were getting ready to leave the house to walk the dogs, we heard firecrackers.... well, what we thought were firecrackers! (Rudy, as usual, panicked at the sound of firecrackers) As we got to the street corner, we noticed three cop cars, roaming around with their headlights off. One cop car questionned us...which made us believe that those were actually gun shots! By the time we had crossed the street to get to the park, another few cop cars arrive (they almost ran us over when we were trying to cross the streets), for a total of NINE! YES! Nine cop cars showed up at the corner of Larch and La France within 2 minutes of when the gun shots were heard! I really appreciate the responsiveness of Alhambra Police. I feel safe to know that they are just around the corner when you need them. But then again, if those were really gun shots, should I feel this safe in this neighoborhood? This is the first time in four years that we heard possible gunshots. We normally hear firecrackers but nothing that makes us believe that it could from a gun! Normally I get curious and would want to stay outside to see the action, but the reality is that we live in Los Angeles and I would not want to get caught in the middle of anything! I'd have my curiousity to blame, nothing else!

Update: This picture was just updated because a firetruck was called to the scene. We were able to see cops and firemen walk into the driveway of the building across from ours. Cops with shotguns, firemen... heehee this was so exciting!

2 minutes is pretty impressive. Their responsiveness may be because LA probably uses a gunfire location system.

Basically, microphones are peppered throughout the city. They detect the sound of gunfire and use software find the location via triangulation.

Pretty nifty stuff!
